本課程乃針對外籍生（CEFR B2以上程度）開設之通識國文課程。本課程以TOCFL快篩測驗作為課前診斷與分流依據，並於第一週說明學期目標、教學規劃與評量方式。課程主軸圍繞五個當代公共議題（言論自由、基改食品、整型、傳統與現代、代理孕母），每課皆以兩篇立場相對的文章進行精讀，帶領學生掌握重點詞彙、語法點、四字格成語與近義詞辨析，並透過略讀與精讀策略拆解文本結構，擷取作者（或多位受訪者）的核心論點與論證脈絡。學生需整理每篇文章至少三個主要論點，進一步表達個人立場、提出新論點或進行反駁，並以指定句式延伸至相關議題（如網路長城、言論審查、刺青、模特兒、平溪天燈、中秋烤肉等），強化語言輸出之準確性與說服力。課程亦安排問卷調查、街頭訪問、新聞議題討論、辯論與角色扮演等語言實踐活動，培養資料蒐集、觀點統整與即時互動能力。第八週與第十四週進行階段複習；期中考著重評估閱讀理解中「拆解、分析與評估文本」的能力；期末報告與期末考則聚焦讀寫整合，檢驗學生能否由閱讀輸入轉化為結構化口頭報告與書面輸出，並於學期末兩週彈性教學中總結主題與語言技巧，奠定中文能力的識讀基礎。

This course is a General Chinese course designed for international students with a **CEFR B2 level or above**. A **TOCFL Placement Test** is administered before the course begins to assess students' Chinese proficiency and determine appropriate enrollment. During the first week, students are introduced to the course objectives, instructional design, and assessment methods.

The course is organized around five contemporary public issues: **freedom of speech, genetically modified (GM) foods, cosmetic surgery, tradition and modernity, and surrogacy**. Each unit features two intensive reading texts that present opposing viewpoints. Through close reading, students develop their understanding of key vocabulary, grammar patterns, four-character idiomatic expressions, and near-synonym distinctions. They also learn to apply both skimming and close-reading strategies to analyze text organization, identify the central arguments of the author(s) or interviewees, and examine the logical development of each argument.

For every reading, students are required to identify at least three major arguments, articulate their own viewpoints, propose additional arguments, or refute existing ones. They further extend their discussions to related issues—such as the Great Firewall, censorship, tattoos, fashion models, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival barbecues—using designated sentence patterns to strengthen the accuracy, coherence, and persuasiveness of their spoken and written Chinese.

To promote meaningful language use beyond the classroom, the course incorporates a variety of communicative tasks, including questionnaire surveys, street interviews, current-affairs discussions, debates, and role-playing activities. These tasks are designed to develop students' abilities in information gathering, synthesizing multiple perspectives, critical thinking, and spontaneous interaction.

Weeks 8 and 14 are dedicated to comprehensive review. The midterm examination focuses on assessing students' ability to **deconstruct, analyze, and evaluate** reading texts. The final presentation and final examination emphasize **reading-to-writing integration**, evaluating students' ability to transform reading input into well-structured oral presentations and coherent written compositions. During the final two weeks of the semester, flexible instructional activities provide opportunities for students to consolidate the themes, language skills, and critical reading strategies developed throughout the course, thereby strengthening the foundation for advanced Chinese literacy and academic communication.
