As populations around the world continue to age, Taiwan became a super-aged society in 2025, making it increasingly urgent to address the resulting challenges at the individual, family, and societal levels. This course brings together experts from psychology, medicine, engineering, and related fields to provide interdisciplinary instruction on the physical, cognitive, and psychological aspects of aging. Through classroom discussions, guest lectures, and hands-on activities, the course combines theoretical knowledge with practical and experiential learning. It aims to promote empathy and respect for older adults, deepen students’ understanding of aging-related issues, help them recognize emerging challenges, and strengthen their ability to integrate and apply professional knowledge. As part of the course, students will visit community-based organizations that provide services for older adults. Through direct observation and interaction, they will identify issues related to theories of aging, assessment, environmental design, and physical and psychological interventions. Students will then develop practical solutions and implement them at the sites, strengthening their ability to address real-world problems. Student assessment will focus on interdisciplinary integration, empathy and concern for older adults, and the practical outcomes of their work. Reflective activities will also be included to help students deepen and consolidate their learning.
