This course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Chinese. Through a communicative and task-based approach, students will gradually build a solid foundation in Mandarin Chinese by integrating pronunciation, vocabulary, basic grammar, and Chinese character learning.
The course will:
1) Introduce Hanyu Pinyin as the primary system for learning Mandarin pronunciation and establishing accurate listening and speaking skills.
2) Develop foundational pronunciation and Chinese character literacy through systematic practice in pronunciation, handwriting, character recognition, and reading.
3) Integrate the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing through interactive classroom activities and meaningful communication.
4) Emphasize practical communication by enabling students to use Chinese in common daily-life situations through pair work, role plays, information-gap activities, and real-world communicative tasks.
