本課程為面向大學部學生所開設的美國通史課程，其目的在於讓學生瞭解今日作為全球強權的美國之形成過程及其背後的推動力量。這其中既有美國境內不同人群的貢獻，也離不開其他全球因素的影響，此外也不能忽視環境作為重要制約因素。
　　本課程為一學年課程，並按照時間順序，上學期從歐洲人與美洲原住民的接觸開始，依次介紹北美殖民地的建立、獨立戰爭，直到南北戰爭結束為止。下學期則從戰後的重建時期開始，依序介紹一戰前的鍍金時代、進步時代，然後進入一次大戰、大蕭條、新政、二次大戰與冷戰，最後以蘇聯崩潰與冷戰結束作結，最後以全球化時代與九一一事件至今的美國歷史發展作結。本課程為上學期課程。
This course is designed as a general introduction to history of the United States. Its main purpose is to explore the historical process of America as a global superpower and its dynamics behind. In this process, we will highlight not only the contributions of different ethnic groups, but also the influences of other global factors. We should not take environmental factors for granted since it sets the stage for the development of America.
This course is designed to be divided into two parts for two semesters. The fall semester will begin with the encounter of Europeans and American indigenes, and then first European settlements in North America, the American Revolutionary War, and end with the Civil War. The spring semester will start with the Reconstruction, then the Glided Age, Progressive Era, World War I, Great Depression, New Deal, World War II, Cold War, downfall of the Soviet Union, and the end of the Cold War. Ultimately the course ends with the global era and the American history since 911. This course will be the first part.
