中正大學課程大綱
Special Topic on Henrik Ibsen易卜生專題
一、課程概述
This seminar studies Henrik Ibsen's prose dramas, tracing the progression of the playwright's literary focus from social problems to personal/psychological dilemmas. Special attention will be given to Ibsen's representations of the Woman Question, particularly in relation to the fin-de-siècle New Woman, as well as to themes such as truth, freedom, ethics, duty, idealism, and capitalism. Among the so-called "Ibsen Cycle," we will focus primarily on six plays, including The Pillars of Society (1877), A Doll's House (1879), Ghosts (1881), An Enemy of the People (1882), Rosmersholm (1886), and John Gabriel Borkman (1896). The seminar aims to deepen students' understanding of the socio-historical context of Ibsen's time, explore how his influence transcends temporal and geographical boundaries, and examine how his works have become integral to the canon of world literature.
