This graduate seminar is a survey of contemporary literary theories. It aims to introduce different theoretical approaches to interpreting literary texts. We will use a work of short fiction as a case study, examining how specific literary theories can be applied to analyze the text. By integrating theoretical and textual readings simultaneously, the course expects to equip students with a basic understanding of various theories and their applications while strengthening students' critical and analytical abilities in oral presentation and research writing.
