This course explores major works of English literature from the early medieval period through the late Middle Ages. Students will examine literary genres such as epic, romance, allegory, and religious writing, with a focus on historical context and cultural themes. Key texts may include Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Arthurian romances, and selections from The Canterbury Tales. Film adaptations of a few literary works and several documentaries will be used to acquaint students with the historical, social, and cultural backgrounds of this period.
