This course focuses on classical mythology, a starting point where freshmen English majors may find it easier and more interesting to engaged with western civilization. In addition to introducing students to mythological stories and figures, the course also includes reading ancient texts such as Homeric epics and Greek drama to explore how they provided the foundation of western literature and culture. Given its introductory nature, it aims to help students engage with, and gradually become accustomed to, both literal and literary reading of English texts, while cultivating their skills in interpretation, analysis, and critical thinking.
