Critical Thinking and Academic Discussion High-intermediate (I)進階批判思考與學術討論(一)
Course Introduction
This course uses real people, real places, and real language from TED talks to connect learners of English to the world. This course also integrates the important issues and skills in 21st century to consolidates core academic language skills. Finally, this course aims to develop students’ speaking skills in discussion and seminars, and foster students’ integrated skills in academic English and inspire critical thinking.
Specifically, students will:
1. develop listening skills through a variety of genres in authentic TED talks
2. develop various reading skills and strategies
3. develop various strategies for speaking tasks in academic context
4. consolidate academic vocabulary through speaking tasks
5. foster students critical thinking skills
6. participate actively and appropriately in group discussion
7. apply various tips in leading seminar discussions
8. show respect to opposing or alternative viewpoints
