This course uses science fiction works to guide students in reflecting on the philosophical implications behind them. Topics of discussion include: “What is human nature?”, “Who am I?”, “How can we distinguish dreams from reality?”, “Do humans have knowledge?”, “Are we living in a simulated world?”, “What is language?”, “What is the relationship between language and thought?”, “Does language really shape the way we think?”, “What is the mind?”, “Do robots have minds?”, “Can robots think?”, “Can robots possess consciousness?”, “Can consciousness be uploaded to the cloud?”, “Can robots have emotions?”, “If robots have emotions, do we have moral obligations toward them?”, “Do robots have human rights?”, “Is the world governed by the law of causality?”, “Can we predict the future?”, “Do humans have free will?”, “Do robots have free will?”, “Is time objectively real?”, “How is time travel possible?”, “Is time reversal possible?”, “Is our fate predetermined?”, “Is it possible to foresee crimes?”, “Can we identify criminals through brain analysis?”, “Does having criminal intent make someone a criminal?”, “Is crime prevention more important than privacy?”, “Is privacy a right?”, “Can we design perfect genes?”, “Should parents modify the genes of the next generation for their children’s benefit?”, “Do genes determine the future, or can human effort overcome nature?”, “Do clones have souls?”, “Can humans be cloned for organ harvesting?”, and “Do clones have human rights?”

By engaging with these traditional philosophical questions and related concepts through the discussion, analysis, and interpretation of science fiction, the course aims to spark students’ interest in philosophy and inspire deeper critical thinking.
