This course introduces the ways in which private equity works, from start to finish, and how it creates value. Students will learn about eight topics: the private equity cycle (fundraising and fund choosing), deal sourcing and evaluation, assigning value (the process, the challenges and disputes over valuation), deal structuring (private equity securities and their motivation), after the money arrives (what happens after the money is invested), achieving liquidity (the process through which private equity investors exit their investments), risk and return (the measurement of performance of private equity funds), and the management of private equity firms.

This course has three primary objectives:
1. Understand the operational mechanisms and structures of the private equity industry.
2. Analyze the key challenges and issues encountered by private equity investors.
3. Explore the processes, complexities, and controversies surrounding valuation.
