This course is an English-taught class that aims to instruct sports-major students how to read and understand news English in the sports field. Considering English reading an essential skill that students often lack, this course thus wishes to strengthen students’ reading and listening abilities along with English grammatical practice. Furthermore, this course proceeds to teach students English writing through imitating writing a newspaper/ journal article. Students will roughly read 10 up-to-date news English articles in class and 5 more articles for self-study. Afterwards, students work in group to come up with a writing practice and present it in class.
At the end of semester, each student is expected to write a short news article in English to report one’s sport progress or achievement. Then, in each group, news reports composed by all individual teammates will be compiled and made into a newspaper/ journal.
