This is an advanced EMI (English-Medium Instruction) graduate-level course in soil microbiology, designed to cultivate students’ interdisciplinary perspectives by integrating cutting-edge microbiological sciences with biotechnology, environmental engineering, data science, and preventive medicine. The course covers four core themes: (1) microbial-driven nutrient cycling and biological weathering in extreme environments; (2) carbon-negative technologies via CO₂ biomineralization; (3) soil and groundwater bioremediation integrated with geological techniques; and (4) machine learning applications integrating imaging medicine and genomic sequencing in soil microbiology. The instructional design emphasizes theoretical lectures, critical literature reading, research proposal writing, and hands-on laboratory practice. The final two weeks are designated as research practicum weeks, with the goal of cultivating internationally competitive research talents.
