This course introduces students to English-Chinese translation through a combination of traditional translation theory and contemporary AI-assisted translation practices, with primary focus on English-to-Chinese translation. In the first half of the semester, students will explore foundational translation concepts, linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese, and essential translation strategies through guided exercises using traditional human translation methods. In the second half, students will learn to work effectively with AI translation tools, developing machine translation post-editing (MTPE) skills that combine human expertise with technological assistance. The course culminates in a collaborative translation project that integrates both traditional and AI-assisted approaches. Through this hybrid methodology, students will develop comprehensive translation competence, enhance critical thinking about language and technology, and gain insights into contemporary professional translation practices.
