Course Description:
This is a survey course covering the English literary tradition from the sixteenth century to the seventeenth century. Given the scope and nature of the course, students must gear up the considerable amount of reading assignments, with the instructor’s guidance.
Group report and group discussion of these works will be assigned in the class. Before the mid-term, the reading will cover representative works of Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare’s sonnets. After the mid-term, we will move to read William Shakespeare’s King Lear and John Donne’s sonnets. Though time allows only cursory and selective readings of texts under consideration, we will still try to conduct guided readings and in-depth analyses of the representative texts.

Course Requirements
1.Each student must attend the class regularly. I will call your name when the class starts after five minutes
2. Each student just has four times to apply leaving throughout the whole semester; over the quota, except for family or medial emergency, you should not be absent without providing any proofs of leaving within two weeks. 全學期可以提請假四次，之後請假除了家庭或醫療以及重要事故 (含公假) ，必須提供相關證明方與准假。缺席者限2周內提出申請銷假， 逾時不予受理。Proof of leave must be submitted (within a week) with a 250-word report in English to explain your absence.
