臺灣的社會組成以多族群為常見，伴隨著族群語言，形成多元的文化。2019年1月，政府公布「國家語言發展法」，將「國家語言」定義為臺灣各固有族群使用之自然語言及臺灣手語。本課程將重點放在較多數人口使用的自然語言，亦即臺灣台語、臺灣客語二者，除了從基礎的標音方式教起，也會讓同學稍加認識臺灣語言相關資料庫，以及相關語言能力認證考試之概況。至於臺灣華語(Taiwan Mandarin)及原住民語言(Indigenous Language)，本課程僅有概論式的簡單介紹，想要深入了解的同學，請參酌其他專業課程。前半學期之課程以臺灣台語為主要內容，後半學期則包括了臺灣客語以及跨方言的綜合討論。期望同學能透過這門課程，增加思考的切入點，提升對在地之語言與文化之認同。

Taiwan's social composition is generally multi-ethnic, with ethnic languages forming a diverse cultural landscape. In January 2019, the government defined "national language" as the natural languages used by Taiwan's various indigenous ethnic groups and Taiwanese Sign Language. This course will focus on the natural languages used by the majority of the population, namely, Taiwanese ( Taiwanese Hokkien) and Hakka. In addition to teaching the basic phonetic notation, students will also be introduced to Taiwanese language databases and the overview of language proficiency certification exams. As for Taiwanese Mandarin and Indigenous Languages, only an overview is provided. Students who want to learn more can refer to other professional courses. It is hoped that students will be able to expand their thinking through this course and enhance their acceptance of the local language and culture.
