This course is designed to train students’ argumentation skills through evaluating the reading materials and debating with others, and to discuss their own research issues in order to get help from others. We try to help participants to learn basic formal syntax and the interfaces between syntax and semantics systematically. Each participant is given an opportunity to become familiar with important research methods in the generative syntax.
The instructor selects papers from linguistics books and journals for the discussion.
Students who have no formal syntax background will be given a brief basic training during the classes. This will also be a good chance for students who have taken Syntax to review what have learned before.
