中正大學課程大綱
English Literature: 20th英國文學:二十世紀
一、課程概述
This course is a general survey of 20th-century English literature, looking at the ways in which literary works turn away from Victorian realism, optimism, moralism, and imperialism towards modernist experimentation, alienation, skepticism, indeterminacy, and (de)colonialization amid the upheavals of social, economic and political changes and scientific/technological advancement. Due to the nature of the course, we will read poetry, prose, essay, drama, and short fiction of some prominent writers, dealing with such issues as modernity, gender/sexuality, art, human psyche, and cultural/national identity, so as to better students’ understanding of the period.
